It seemed to be a process he's been working through over time. Recently, Dawson had been talking about what Jesus has done for us, asking more direct questions, etc...& was seeming to make the deeper connect that what Jesus did for the world, Jesus did for him - personally. Troy & I have continued to want to give more & more time for Daws to be a little older, to make sure he really understood, & just continued to talk things through with him as time has gone by & as he had questions.
But on this particular Saturday, he just kept asking us again & again if he could pray to ask Jesus into his life. Throughout the day, after his t-ball game, "Dad, let's just pray right now, I really want to ask Jesus into my life," during the afternoon, "mom, I feel like Jesus is calling my name, even when you & dad aren't around, I feel like He's speaking to me," at dinner, "guys, when is someone going to pray with me so I can ask Jesus into my heart????!" So, finally we sat down that evening & Troy talked things through just as he has hundreds of times before with other kids & their parents, but this time with our little Dawson! We all knelt & prayed, of course I cried. (:
It's such an amazing reminder to me that the Spirit of God can work in the life of a 6 yr. old, just as He can in the life of a 60 yr. old & anyone in between, before or after! It's the same miraculous work, He calls His children to be adopted into His own family, He tugs at our hearts, He speaks to us, He calls our name, until we just can't ignore Him anymore. He's so good & we're very thankful for that eternal work that continues in all of us.
Another awesome thing is that this was the day of Dana's birthday, Troy's sister, who has been such a spiritual mentor to me, prayed us through our whole journey of adoption & has continued to pray for our children through these years. She is thrilled that Dawson now shares a "birthday" with her! In the big scheme of things, I just have to believe that there is some sort of spiritual significance in that, wow, our prayers really do make a difference.
Thank you Lord for the new life You have given us, for the new life You will give to our generations to come, You are so good!
